Swiss Day’s 10k

August 31, 2013

Our morning began at 4:40 a.m. We got up, got the girls ready and headed out the door at 5:15 and made our way up to Midway. We got there early enough to pick up packets and to get the 4 kid stroller ready. I was able to get a 6 minute warm up run in with Melody Jensen while the girls played on the roof of the car.

The 10k was tough! The 1st 2 1/2 miles was up hill (some parts steeper than others). My 5th mile was the fastest at a 5:59 pace. My main goal was to keep Melody in my sight at all times! ๐Ÿ™‚ She was flying. The last mile was tough… There was another uphill that made my legs burn! I finished 2nd in women and 3rd overall. There was a guy just ahead of Melody. My time was 38:32 (6:12 pace) I was 35 sec behind Melody. After, I ran back (as a cool down) to meet up with Corom, the girls and our good friend Mike Fullmer (also our pediatrician) to help push the stroller. Corom what a man! He pushes the stroller with our 4 girls in it for every race with Mike usually right with him to help. With the stroller and the girls, it is about 180 pounds! I don’t know how he does it but he loves doing it.

They had a kids race that our 2 middle girls ran.

    • Hey Ashley… would you by chance want to write up your running story? Why you started running, what keeps you going and/or why you enjoy running? Let me know, either way… Thanks so much!

Fantastic race and darling girls! I’m impressed they will get up that early… kids just throw a fit when we go to races ! Way to go!

    • The night before a race we start putting our girls down at 6:30. ๐Ÿ™‚ They are all young enough to be “bribed” into going to bed. We told them that we were going to stay for all the dog shows so they needed their rest. It worked!!! It is not always that easy, but last night was a lucky night for us. Are you doing a race on Monday for Labor Day?

  4. Love your blog, my fast friend! Lets run again soon.

    • Thanks Melody! You truly are an amazing person. Corom and I were talking about you today and you are so beautiful inside and out! You are always so positive and encouraging with everyone and everything. I am so glad you raced this run. It was fun seeing you.
