Spin Class

20131031-094555.jpg
I went to South Valley Gym this morning for a spin class… I loved it! It was tough and I was sweating! This may sound weird but I loved feeling my sweat drip down my face, neck and back… I don’t get that way when I run. Anyway… That sounds really gross. 🙂 We rode for 58 minutes and it was a great workout. It really is nice to do something different (mentally).

Haunted House & Halloween Party

We went to a friend’s house for a fun Halloween dinner (after i finished scouts). They then had a scavenger hunt set up with clues and all…

After the scavenger hunt they went in a spook ally in their basement…

Corom and I were very impressed! Our friends put in a lot if work and it was fun! Our kids had a blast… Then I took them and Z to a Haunted House in Elkridge (put on by the soccer team). I freaked my kids out that I think all 4 of them might end up in my bed! They give you 2 options… Do you want the “princess” version or the “scary” version? Of course I said scary… Lets just say the Haunted House did a very good job at scaring my kids (and z and I at times).

I do recommend it for everyone to go through. It is cheap and way good. If you have young kids… Do the princess version! 🙂

Cross Country Practice

We sent the kids off on a 6 mile run today with strides at the end to finish it off. I feel that most of our runners shut down a little after State was over… (We still have one more race in December. It is a pretty big race with a lot of the Western States.) I do get where they are coming from… It is hard mentally to stay in it when you raced the race we have been training for all season. And for us to say okay, lets do more until this race just throws you off a little bit. Our boys and girls team did so well this season but they could be even better if they were mentally stronger and put more effort into their runs. Not all of them are that way and on the other hand not all of them care about running as much as I and some others. But if they did care more and put a little more effort in, they could be unstoppable! I know I am rambling, but if the other coaches in our region knew how little our kids ran as an average (taking out our top 2 or 3 male and female runners-total… Not top 2 or 3 in each category) they would be frustrated with how well our team did this year! We had a end of the year meeting (which I now realized needs to happen more often) on average to highest mileage each individual ran. We started back from the time we started in the summer. As a team (coaches and runners), we met 3 times a week and on the other 2 to 3 days, we had the captains lead the workouts. We gave them a workout that the captains would have them do. Well we found out the majority (a very high percentage) only ran the days we came! That is only 25 sometimes 30 miles a week. That was their base leading into the season! Ouch!!! Now I know… Next summer will be different. The thing is… The runner has to want it! I know what I want but they will have to want it as much as me! Anyway… I started this post to write a 2 to 3 sentence paragraph and this is what it turned into. 🙂 Practice went well today.

Not The Best Day To Walk

I was able to get the girls ready in time to walk them to school… They love when we walk…

Today was one of those days that I should have drove! Everything was great getting to school… Right when they got there my oldest took off running and took a dive right to the ground. It was so sad! (My 2nd child did that yesterday but gratefully missed her face.)

On our way home I was pushing the 2 younger girls in a double stroller (not a running one just a normal walking one). I was pushing away when I hit a part of the sidewalk that was sticking up. Well the stroller flopped right over… Both my 3rd and 4th child flew out…

I felt horrible! My kids are so tough though! They all cried for about 20 to 30 seconds and were done! Well I get home and I have about 10 min to get the my 3rd child ready for her speech class. We get into the car and I tried to start my car and of course the car won’t start… If I would have drove the kids to school, I would have had non-scraped up kids and I would have known my car battery was dead. I was a little late to speech but it all worked out!

Close Encounter With Our Run

I met up with Rachelle, Amber and Julia this morning. We went on a loop that is about 5 miles long. We were running a nice easy pace, enjoying each others company. (Rachelle is tapering for her race this weekend and so we all decided to taper with her.) We were about 2 1/2 miles into the loop when a car was coming towards us. No big deal… We are always running in traffic (some of us runners are more decked out and prepared with the vests and lights, etc.). Well as this car was getting closer, we realized the person did not notice us. We were on part of the gravel off the side of the road and yet this car was still coming at a faster speed than the speed limit and coming straight at us. We all stopped in our tracks and stood there to wait until the car passed. It kept coming straight at us (this was all within 20 to 30 sec)… We all had to jump out of the way into a little ditch… Poor Amber had the hardest fall into the ditch but we were all a little shaken up over the situation. Julia and I finished off with 5.3 in about 44 to 45 minutes (our times were all a little off because of the car incident…). The other 2 went for another mile. I had to get back home to help get the kids and Z (our Foriegn Exchange student) get ready for school. She is asking a boy to a ladies choice dance, so we are helping her with how she is asking him…
