I decided to start Spin today at South Valley Gym. I got there a little early (with our Foreign Exchange student) because I needed to show her how to set up her bike. I completely forgot how much spin kicks my butt! I was sweating (tons), I was breathing hard and my legs were burning. The music was going, the class was full and everyone just got into a rhythm. The class was 60 min long but it went by fast!

I felt good after we were done. It has been a while since I have been to a spin class. South Valley Gym has great classes there and the instructors are awesome! It felt real nice on the legs to do something other than running…
Our foreign exchange student and I came home from the cross country meet and quickly had dinner…

She had plain yogurt with salsa and raw onions… Something I MIGHT have to try. I love onions but eating them like an apple just makes me want to cry thinking about it. 😉 I then loaded up the girls and we headed off to scouts… Woohoo!

This was a race to watch! All the boys gave it their all! They came to compete and they did. Our top runner finished his race by chasing down a runner in the last 200 meters to place 3rd in State! (He was 1st in Region.) He ran well and looked very comfortable the entire time. The other coach and I were rather pleased!!!

Our next runner was 11th and only 20 sec behind our 1st. He, too, had the look of determination on his face. (I will actually say that all the boys looked comfortable yet determined!) He was so happy with his time and placing!

The other runners fought hard for positioning and 3 of them battled against each other. It was exciting to watch.

The boy’s placed 4th overall. We are very happy!

We had almost the entire team out cheering (the ones not competing) and most of the parents and some faculty. It was fun to see them there cheering the boys and girls. We are happy with both teams!

Here is our bus to State… I had to be picked up on the side of the road because I was unable to make it to the school on time. 🙂 Special treatment! On our way to State…

As I entered the bus and sat down, I noticed there was a nervous energy in the air. I have to admit that I think I am just as nervous as the ones racing.

The first thing I noticed as I stepped off the bus was how nice the weather was. It was a perfect day with great running temperatures! Before the races started everyone (the JV runners, not the Varsity) went and got something to eat. A few of us went to Olive Garden.

We finished up and went to meet up with the Varsity girls…

They all ran good. A few ran a PR and they were way happy about it. To be honest, I felt that some of the girls could have given a little more but I do know that their nerves got the best of them. They are strong runners, now the other coach and I need to work on their mental race…

What is great with the girls (and boys) is that they are a young team. Our top female runner is a sophomore and was only 2 seconds off our school record. She has improved so much from the 1st day she came out. We have a couple of soccer girls that came out and decided to run cross country instead of soccer and have raced really well for us!

It has been great working with them and a fun race to watch!
Oh I am tired after today’s workout! I ran track workout with Rachelle, Amber and Julia. Rachelle has a race next weekend… So we are here to push her along. 🙂 I have not ran a track workout or a short speed in so long. It was crazy how hard I was breathing, how sore my legs were while running, etc. We started off with a mile and a half warmup. We then ran a mile at about a 5K/10K race pace. It was a 6:10 pace. We ran a lap cool down around the track. Then we ran 4 400’s (1 lap around the track 4 times). We jogged a 200 (half a lap) recovery before we started the next 400. We hit our 400’s at 1:21 every time. I seriously felt like I was going to throw up. 🙂 After the 4 400s we jogged an 800 (half a mile; 2 laps around the track) for a recovery. We then ran a mile on the track at 5K race pace. Our time was 5:58. That felt good. I did a mile cool down (my right leg has been really bothering me lately… It is not a muscle sore or shin splints, it has a deeper ache than that. I do believe it has to do with the rod in my leg, but it has never affected me before like this. Who knows?) Anyway, it was great and I am excited to see how Rachelle does next week! I will admit that it is nice doing speed without having to do it for a race.
