What A Day…

I went to bed way too late (midnight) and woke up way too early (5:15)… I did not want to get up to go running but I knew that if I slept in, I wouldn’t be able to run later. Sleep is so important! Especially if you want to do well with any type of workout you want/need to do. Today was my recovery, easy day after yesterday’s hard workout but I think with the lack of sleep I didn’t feel like it was an easy day or a recovery! I did run for 1:09.03 (about 8 1/2 miles). I did feel better towards the end of my run but when I came home to get the girls ready, I was dragging and already wanted a nap. :/
I dropped the 2 older girls off at school, went grocery shopping and my 2 younger girls and I went to my 3rd daughter’s speech class.

She is doing so much better with her speech! Later, I watched 3 extra kids and then the girls and I headed off to track practice…

20140423-155053.jpg
I sent the distance runners on a 50 minute recovery, adventure run. They had to be in groups of at least 3 and could go do whatever run they wanted to do. I had to leave practice a little early because I had scouts today.
We played the game Bigger or Better for our activity. I gave them each a piece of candy and they had to go to neighbor’s homes and get something bigger and better. Yeah… That was not the best idea… This is what the teams came back with…

20140423-183751.jpg
A freakin’ Christmas Tree… I want to thank my neighbor Stephanie for trading what the boys brought to her (a sandbox) for a Christmas tree. 😉 Corom is going to love seeing this when he gets home from working late. We celebrated one of the boy’s birthdays and as you can see, one of the boys got his foot and leg stuck in the stool… I tried for about 2 seconds to help him out but figured he could get unstuck on his own…

20140423-184346.jpg
After scouts my soon to be new neighbor and friend of ours dropped off their kids so they can be childless while they move stuff from their old place to right next door.

20140423-184611.jpg
This one cried for awhile but once she settled down it was fun to cuddle with her. Our poor foreign exchange student. 🙂 I told her to hide out in her room for awhile. I have 4 extra kids right now and at one point there I had the scouts, my kids, the kids that I’m watching and the other leaders kids-4 of them. Anyway… The kids had a late night (for them on a school night) but when everyone left, they crashed hard.

20140423-210935.jpg
My visiting teachers stopped by tonight to talk and hang out. It was very nice to be childless and to be able to sit and talk for awhile… Thanks Megan and Misty! Now it is time for me to go to bed… Sorry Corom, I am not going to be waiting up for you this time. I am tired!!! 😉

Speed Workout, Track Meet & Family

Oh the speed workout today (and so early in the morning)… 20 x 400’s with a 200 (1/2 a lap) recovery. I had a great group show up to run the workout with me (Amber, Mac, Aubrey, Melissa, Scott, and Rachelle).

20140422-131904.jpg
We all ran a warmup (I ran 2 miles to warmup and then 19:13.42 for a cool down with 2 fast strides to end it). I do like to finish off every run with at least 2 to 4 strides or end my workouts fast. If you finish off a run fast, Your body (memory) remembers going that speed.
We all ran at different speeds (my goal was to run 10 seconds faster than my goal marathon mile pace). For the 1st 17, I ran between a 1:23-1:25 lap (5:40 mile pace… That is 30 seconds Faster than my goal marathon pace). The last 3 were a 1:22, 1:20, and 1:20. I felt good but knew I was finished after the 20th. I ran 30 times around the track… 7 1/2 miles of speed (around a track). :/ It actually went by pretty quick! And it really wasn’t that bad. I ran about 12 miles total. It really was great having others running on the track with me… Very motivating to keep going and to finish the full workout!

20140422-133551.jpg
I came home and began the process of getting the girls (and Corom) ready for school and work. 😉 My 6 year old and 5 year old did their own hair this morning… My 6 year old does her hair a lot but sometimes (or most of the time) she does a better job than I do!

20140422-211009.jpg
I took all the kids to school, and my preschooler was having her car activity today…

20140422-143759.jpg
I, then went to South Valley Gym to do my 20 minutes of “weight” training. 😉 me and weights don’t go well together. I am not the best with weights. I do low reps of lat pulls, pull-ups, calf raises and quad weights about twice a week. So fun…

I had 4 extra kids today; the kids had fun… And then I headed off for a track meet. It was a relay track meet. More of a fun meet for the kids.

20140422-220218.jpg
One of my distance runners was not put on a relay team (he was sick the day before). He came to the meet and wanted to race. We tried to put together the 4 x 1 mile relay race but all the distance runners had either maxed out on races or couldn’t do it… So 3 javelin throwers stood up and said they would do it. They are not distance runners!!! One of the throwers is the top 2 in State right now…

20140422-225209.jpg
He actually threw his best mark by 10 feet 15 minutes after he finished the mile. (The little guy is the freshman distance runner.) It really made me happy to see these 3 jump up and do it for him.

20140422-230118.jpg
Overall the high school kids ran well (especially in the wind we had). At home we put the girls to bed, I signed Corom and I up for the St. George marathon, and Corom decided to start carb loading…

20140422-231020.jpg
Chocolate Ganosh cake… My favorite! A couple of friends and I went to a late movie… Thanks Camille and Stephanie, it was fun to get out and veg!

Running, Kids, Track & Family Night…

I went out on a 8.7 mile run this morning with Amber, Aubrey and Mac. It was a nice, easy run… Which was nice because I was tired this morning! I ran it in 1:11.42… About an 8:10-8:15 pace. I did a lot of thinking today while the other 3 talked. I was in my own little world… Thinking about the Boston marathon and many of my friends that were running it. They all did really well. One of my friends went out to try to qualify for the Olympic Trials and missed it by 27 seconds. She ran well but I was still bummed for her!
I helped out in my 2nd daughter’s kindergarten class today.

20140421-190120.jpg
As I have stated before… I help out with their testing every other Monday… My mother-in-law and I switch off. I enjoy doing it to be more involved and to see where my kids are at in school. At home I had 8 extra kids all below the age of 6 playing here… And then I headed off for track practice.

20140421-190601.jpg
The distance runners went off on a 5-6 mile easy run. Their legs are pretty shot from this past week. They have a race tomorrow and a pretty big race this weekend.

20140421-190737.jpg
After dinner we had a short Family Home Evening. The lesson was on respecting each other and our belongings! Our girls have a huge problem with that… We had a fun bike ride planned for tonight’s family activity but that was taken away. We ended the family “lesson” and sent them up to their rooms to clean. As I’m writing this, the girls are upstairs fighting over things being stolen from each other. A lot of hitting, name calling, and yelling has been going on. It makes me wonder if they get anything we are trying to teach them!
I received some race bands for Grandma’s marathon (Duluth, Minnesota) in the mail today and my 3rd child got into the envelope…

20140421-192124.jpg
Every single race/wrist band was connected (she tore the cover off the sticky part and connected it). Very frustrating! What do you do? :/ Oh well… This is a daily occurrence that happens… Just it is something different every day. But I do love my kids!
Right before we put the girls to bed, we helped our preschooler (3rd child) with her box car for her class…

20140421-202831.jpg
Now it is time for us to get ready for bed.

20140421-210113.jpg
Yep… Love my kids- no matter how the day goes…

Easter Sunday

Easter morning came real quick! We made the girls wait another 45 minutes (they woke up at 5:50ish) so Corom and I hurried and got ready for church. We wanted to let Z (our foreign exchange student) sleep as long as possible. I also felt a little mean for letting the girls believe the Easter bunny didn’t leave anything for them.

20140420-113052.jpg
The girls were so sad… The 2 older ones walked back to their rooms and said they wanted to go back to bed. I had to let them know before they began to cry so I said oh you have to go find your new baskets… All my girls ran back downstairs with more energy and excitement than before… They found their baskets and had fun going through them.

20140420-113528.jpg
We, of course, had to take pictures of their Easter dresses.

20140420-113718.jpg

20140420-115049.jpg
Corom left for a meeting by 7:30 and the girls and I later joined him at church (which started at 9).
The girls sang in church today (along with another little girl-Malana). Amber D (my running partner ;)) played the piano and Suzy (one of the youth) played her violin. They did really well.

20140420-195821.jpg
(This was them yesterday practicing.)
After church we decorated monster Easter cookies…

20140420-195940.jpg

20140420-195951.jpg
And then the girls saw dad (Corom) sleeping on the trampoline; they decided to wake him up.

20140420-200101.jpg
We put on a few little Easter clips today on our Savior for the girls to watch. We sat down together and discussed all what our Savior has done for us and how much He loves us! I am grateful for the gospel and for my family!
We went to the Fullmer’s for dinner…

20140420-200248.jpg
And had a fun time visiting.
Now we are putting the girls to bed and after their day of candy and excitement… Oh what fun! Not the easiest…
Here are some videos I recorded of the girls earlier when they thought the Easter bunny didn’t come. I kind of feel bad…

… But the girls were telling everyone (and laughing about it) how the Easter bunny tricked them.
The other video was too long to download off my phone…

My Long Tempo Run, Doctor Visit & Easter Fun

I ran a good solid 16.2 mile run today! My longest training run ever. 🙂 I met up with Rachelle, Jenae and Rebecca… This is rebecca-

20140419-135039.jpg
We ran 8 miles up Hobble Creek canyon (a pretty good climb). We got to the top in 1:04.45 (8:06 pace). Then we turned around and ran a tempo down. I ran a 6 minute pace for the 8 miles down. I finished at 1:52.44 (47:59 minutes down). I just finished off with a .2 mile cool down. I wanted to finish off my workout fast and with not a long slow cool down. I woke up at 5 a.m. to start my run and was home early to do the whole Easter egg hunts… Our neighbors held their annual street neighborhood Easter breakfast and hunt…

20140419-140731.jpg
Soon after the neighborhood gathering (which was so much fun)… I was supposed to head up to the track meet but I took my 3rd daughter to the Insta-care for an X-ray appointment to check out her leg. She has the symptoms of Perthes Disease… The doctor took x-rays of her (the Doc was so amazing and so good with my daughter)!

20140419-205955.jpg
They checked out her x-Ray and ruled out Perthes disease! 🙂 I was relieved! The lady printed off my daughter’s x-Ray and gave her a copy. She was so excited!

20140419-210248.jpg
On Monday Dr. Fullmer will check out a few more things… But it is looking hopeful. 🙂 I just hope to find the reason why to often of nights my daughter is very close to tears or in tears because of the pain in her right leg. 😦 Or know the cause of her stiff legging it while she is running (or limping). Maybe it is major growing pains…?
We went to another Easter party… We barbecued hot dogs, colored Easter eggs and did a little Easter egg hunt…

20140419-212030.jpg
We then played egg games…

20140419-212141.jpg
We had a lot of fun.
The girls practiced their song that they are singing in church tomorrow and then Corom took them for rides. :/

20140419-212805.jpg
The girls went to bed pretty good knowing the Easter Bunny was coming tonight.
We watched a movie after we got the girl’s baskets ready. We actually left their buckets empty that the Easter Bunny was supposed to fill and hid their new baskets that the Easter Bunny left. Oh it will be an interesting morning…
