4×1000 Speed Work

There were about 10 of us that met up this morning for a lovely speed workout of 4 x 1000’s around the track. (Blake, Tris, Jacob, Scott, Melissa, Katie, Levi, etc.) We ran a 20 min warmup; we ran to BYU’s outdoor track but there was still a lot of snow on it, so we headed back to the indoor track… (We were all dressed for running outside… Yes we were burning up running inside but it was all good).

We were supposed to run at 80% with the speed today. So we figured to come across the 800 (1/2 mile) mark at 3 minutes even (makes it a 6 min mile pace) and then to hold onto that pace to finish off the 1000 (we were a little short of a 1000 but pretty close)… The 1st and 2nd one we came across the 800 at 3… It was perfect. The 3rd one was a 2:54 and the 4th was a 2:58. The total 1000 was 1) 3:37, 2) 3:35, 3) 3:28 & 4) 3:30. We jogged a lap in-between each interval. Between the 2nd and 3rd we jogged 2 laps. My legs were tired but the repeats felt very controlled and we were not struggling through them. I like these workouts because you are training your body to be used to your goal race pace. There are some workouts that you do to go all out and then there are others that are controlled. It helps you get through a longer speed workout with the controlled times. We finished off with stretching…

And then 1 leg hops. 2 x 50 on each leg. It is good to end your workout practicing a fast cadence and it helps build foot strength.

We did have others that ran our warm ups with us (Rachelle and Amber D) and Janae ran into us as we were finishing up… Love seeing and being around all our running friends…
I stopped off at the gym and did 3 x 10 back Lat pulls at 50 lbs and 2×10 front lat pulls at 50 lbs…

20140121-092349.jpg
I headed over to the pull-up machine (the more weight you put on the easier it is to do a pull-up).

I put the weight to 90lbs and it was still hard for me. πŸ™‚ I’m in trouble with my upper body strength. I did 15 and called it good. I came home and Corom and I helped get the girls ready for school… Let the day begin!

Martin Luther King Day

Once we got the house cleaned (and the girls had to clean their rooms) we went to the $3.00 movie theatre. We saw the movie Free Birds…

20140120-201153.jpg
It was a cute movie… The girls loved it. We got out at about 12:30 and decided to go back home and go for a walk. It was a nice day today (chilly but sunny)…

20140120-201800.jpg
We hung out with a few neighbors along the way and used their front yards to entertain our kids…

For dinner we had the Barney’s and Martins over. We made homemade pizza and hung out for a little while.
For Family night, (the Martins, Barney’s and a few more families from our street) met at the church and did some cleaning. It is our blocks turn to clean the church this week. We were able to get it done pretty quick because a lot of people showed up.

After the cleaning we played “Lightening”… It is a basketball game. We had a blast… I didn’t make it to far in the game, though!

Morning Run

I met up with Beth and Aubrey at 8 this morning (a really late start for all of us) but with no school and Corom not having to work, I really was in no hurry to get up and run! Even though the sun was up it was still freezing! It was 9 degrees out. It was a nice, easy run. It felt good to get out andΒ run even though my legs were sore… I ran for 1:03.33. Probably around 8 miles but not quite sure. πŸ™‚ Great way to start off my week.

I Love My “Rest” Day!

I know I stated this before but I will say it again… As much as I love running, I love my rest days even more! I love knowing that I put in a good week and I am able to have a day that I don’t have to think about any form of exercise. I do not run, cross train, do core work or anything. Mentally I need this day once a week and physically my body needs it! Your body needs a break to be able to keep going! Anyway…

I slept in until a little after 7… The kids played quietly this morning and it was so nice! We eventually got up and got ready for church (it was Stake Conference so it started at 10). The girls were pretty good today… Always a bonus! Church was also good! The speakers did a great job at sharing their message. After we had 4 of our friends come over for lunch. We made breakfast burritos… These 4 are truly amazing women!!!

(Bad lighting on my part!) We had a great time. After we took a little nap and then had a few more friends over for dinner. The Fullmer’s and Barry & Melinda came for their birthdays… All 4 of their birthdays are this month…

After the little birthday celebration we began the bedtime routine. I laid in bed with my youngest until she fell asleep and then moved to my oldest’s bed…

20140119-210355.jpg
It took her a while to fall asleep (partially my fault…). I love it that she still asks me to lay with her at night. She is my one child that is so independent!!! There are many times she does not want me around, so when she does ask me to lay with her I will stop what I’m doing to do it. The other 3 would have us lay with them every night if possible! Corom laid with our 3rd daughter until she fell asleep and then went to our 2nd…

Well it is almost my time to go to bed and Corom is still up there… Asleep! So I have been watching a Hal-Mark movie. πŸ™‚

St. George 1/2 Marathon

Well my girls were up at 5:30 this morning. I think the whole hotel room was way exciting for them. So the morning began for the 1/2 marathon race. I am so appreciative for my friend Amber D. for sharing her room with the girls and I! It did make it a lot easier to not have to get the kids up at 4 and drive to St. George this morning. Corom and Mike left at 4:45 a.m. to meet up and run the 5k… Corom was driving and was, of course, pulled over…

20140118-223118.jpg
Thank goodness he was given a warning… We met at the starting line at 8:15. Corom pushed the girls in our 4 kid stroller for the 5k…

20140118-223718.jpg
He did well and the girls love it! The 1/2 marathon started 10 minutes after. The first 7 1/2 miles was all up hill. There would be a hill and a little down, then another long uphill, with a little down, etc. From 7 1/2 to 8.25 was a steep down. We ended up on a bike trail and ran the rest on the trail. It was mostly flat. At mile 9 I started to struggle! About the 10 mile marker, I took a Gu with caffeine in it. That helped me to finish the rest of the race. (I took a Gu at mile 5). I finished the race with a 1:22.11.

20140118-232112.jpg
I was tired coming down that last stretch! I did get a little boost of energy when I saw Corom and the kids (that is my youngest out in the road).

20140118-232640.jpg
Oh on a side note… Corom bought those pants for me… Thanks Corom! πŸ™‚ I took 3rd behind Kassi and Sierra. I know Kassi well… She is an amazing runner!!! Very strong and works hard. I ran a total of 16 miles today. 2 mile warmup with Amber D, Amber A, and Kassi and then a 1 1/2 mile cool down with Amber D. I then ran a half a mile with my girls in their Tuff Kids 1/2 mile race. They loved it… They got their own medal!

20140118-234513.jpg
Amber D ran really well… She had a 10 min PR from last year! She Rama 1:38. I had to give her a little shout out! Great job!
We loaded up and drove home… Much better coming home (a lot of potty stops)! Corom dropped me off at the Clarion Gardens and I worked there until 9:45 p.m. There was a wedding tonight and we served a ice cream bar. It was a lot of fun…

20140118-234852.jpg
Back at home, Corom had quite the mess to clean up… Our 2nd child threw up all the candy she ate (Corom’s fault :))…

20140118-235206.jpg
(Sorry to descriptive)…. And our youngest had an accident in her pants and he only wishes it was just pee. πŸ™‚ I came home and the Fullmer’s came down and we watched a movie. Fun times! I’m tired now.
