That was the start of the 10k (you can see my friend Rachelle Wardle… She took 1st in the 10k with a time of 39:30).
I actually woke up this morning feeling a little tired and lazy. My alarm went off and I debated whether to get up and race but I knew if I didn’t I would feel a little disappointed. So I got dressed (tried to get Corom up and the girls but he decided not to go- it is a lot of work getting the kids ready). I signed up for the 5k and met up with Melissa and Scott at the starting line (after warming up for 12 min)…

My 1st mile was a 5:47…. Way to fast for me. I knew I would have to slow down so I wouldn’t be struggling at the end. 2nd mile was a 6:00 and 3rd mile was a 6:02. My finish time was 18:29. Melissa took 2nd and after the race we did a cool down run along the 10k course. We ran back to meet my mother-in-law Sarah and our friend/pediatrician Mike Fullmer. (We cooled down for a little over 3 miles.)

They did well. Here were the awards:

This is Rachelle (she took 1st in the 10k) and Julia raced the 10k and ran well…

This is my mother-in-law, Sarah. She took 1st in her age group for the 10k:

The race was fun and I’m glad I ended up running it (I also won a nice watch in the raffle :)). After I came home and the girls, Corom and I went to the Payson Onion Day’s Parade. I love parades probably just as much as my girls (maybe even a little bit more).
We had a fun gathering here at my house tonight with some of the people I run with. It was so much fun that we forgot to take pictures. Thanks Rachelle for putting this together and for the fun game! It was also nice getting to know the families of the ladies… We talk so much about our home life out on our runs that it is nice to put a face to a name. Until next time…
It may be my day of rest from running or any other exercise, but it is by far our day of rest from the work of kids. All I have to say about that is oh what a morning before church! All 4 kids were on it today! (I do think I exercised my vocal cords today… Is that ok?) 🙂
After our 10k my family and I spent the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon at Soldier Hollow, Midway for Swiss Days. We watched the sheep herding competition:

Then we went over to the dog splash competition (how far the dog can jump):

Next it was the K9 (police dog) demonstration. That was fun to watch. The police officer was trying to pull the dog off but the dog would not let go until he gave a certain command.:

We came upon “Wild Wonders”. It was fun seeing them there because we actually had this couple come to our house for our daughter’s birthday party. They rescue and raise wild and exotic animals. They are a non-profit organization and raise money to take care of the animals by doing shows, parties, etc. (Their website is wildwondersedu.com). Coco their bird was a riot:
Our morning began at 4:40 a.m. We got up, got the girls ready and headed out the door at 5:15 and made our way up to Midway. We got there early enough to pick up packets and to get the 4 kid stroller ready. I was able to get a 6 minute warm up run in with Melody Jensen while the girls played on the roof of the car.

The 10k was tough! The 1st 2 1/2 miles was up hill (some parts steeper than others). My 5th mile was the fastest at a 5:59 pace. My main goal was to keep Melody in my sight at all times! 🙂 She was flying. The last mile was tough… There was another uphill that made my legs burn! I finished 2nd in women and 3rd overall. There was a guy just ahead of Melody. My time was 38:32 (6:12 pace) I was 35 sec behind Melody. After, I ran back (as a cool down) to meet up with Corom, the girls and our good friend Mike Fullmer (also our pediatrician) to help push the stroller. Corom what a man! He pushes the stroller with our 4 girls in it for every race with Mike usually right with him to help. With the stroller and the girls, it is about 180 pounds! I don’t know how he does it but he loves doing it.
