Homework, Cross Country, Soccer…

Does that look like a lion?… This is one of my daughter’s assignments (Corom is the creative one and with him gone it had to be me. We had to make something with the letter L out of leaves…). But we had fun doing it together. I took my 3rd child to speech class. She is coming along so quickly. She went into this speech class not able to say s’s, f’s, v’s, sh, k’s,etc. at all in any of her words. It has been a year and she is doing so well!

After speech, we (the girls and I) went to cross country practice. We sent the kids on a 35 minute run with strides. Some of the cross country runners went the extra mile and did an arm and core workout before and after their workout… My kids joined them to…

We had 2 soccer games tonight. G-goat (grandma) came and helped me juggle the soccer games. My 2nd daughter made a goal tonight in her game. They had fun but it was freezing tonight!!! We came home and had hot chocolate.

Mapped My Route

I put all the kids in the car and 3 extra kids that I’m watching and drove the route of my run this morning. So I ran for 1:05.34 and it ended up being 9.4 miles. I’m happy with my run!

Last “Long” Run Before the Marathon

I dropped all the girls off at school and went on a nice 1:05.34 minute run. I felt good and had a good solid pace… I think. I felt like I could have kept going for a lot longer but I stopped for 3 reasons: 1) I read an article on active.com on the last 2 weeks before a marathon and the whole tapering thing. I am not a high mileage person to began with and when the article mentioned that 90% of people training for a marathon do too much 2 weeks before the marathon, it made me think that “yes it is okay to not go for a 15 miler”… I believe for most of us runners it is hard to back off mentally. It suggested to do 70-80% of what we normally do. 2) I started to feel my hamstring… It doesn’t hurt at all but I can feel it so I want to be smart. 3) I was close to my house and I have a real hard time mentally running past my house and having to go more… Anyway, back to my watch…I am old school with a watch that only does time, so I don’t know how far I ran. 🙂 I will get in the car to retrace my steps just to see the distance. One day I will upgrade my watch…

Cross Country Practice & Stuff

20130925-191935.jpg
The high school kids went on a 4.78 mile run today. It was a recovery run because the last 2 days were hard on the kids. We could see it in their run yesterday! There were some funny situations that we saw while driving past the kids (yes we follow them…):

2 of the kids forgot to bring running clothes so we told them to get to running! 🙂 Oh and it was raining… I love running in the rain but if I had to do it in my clothes, well that is a different story.

We came upon this group. The dog would not leave them alone. It looked like he kept nipping at them. It was funny to watch them try to scare the dog away… It didn’t work. And everyone who knows me, knows that I am terrified of dogs when I run! Yes we made sure the kids were okay… The dog was harmless. After cross country, we had soccer (pictures) for my 3rd child. It was freezing!

And then we (the girls and I) went to scouts for pack night.

And finally we went to school for SEP’s (parent/teacher conference). We came home, did the whole bedtime routine and then a friend came over and we watched a show together. Her husband is gone too so we thought it would be fun to hang out.

I Got My Run In!

I had my 4 year old take this:

I was able to run for 41 min today. 40 min was a nice easy pace and 1 min was a slow shuffle (I did back off a little because I can feel an annoyance in my hamstring… Not to bad, though). I walked for a couple of min. Now I am icing my hamstring while I’m writing this up.

(4 year old again… Not bad.) The ice is burning my leg! I did run in my other new shoes… I like them. Thanks Runner’s Corner for the Sauconys (Flexfilm)!
